Jeez, I'm having a bad time of it with today's one...

"Tall white spring flower the Italian lost in wind" = easterly.

"Free one divides 22 in line joining poles" = meridian. (Answer to 22 is 'stingy'.)

"Bats can't apparently doze" = catnap. (Is this just a case of ap being an abbrev of apparently?)

"Avoiding summit, it's still the harshest mountain" = everest.

Many thanks.

Meridian = Mean (stingy) divided by rid i (free one)

The tall white flower is Easter lily -- take away 'il' and you have Easterly.

Everest is Severest (meaning harshest) minus its summit -- the letter 's'.

I'm struggling to find a better explanation for Catnap. I got excited for a while thinking that there might be a very clever Welsh thing going on with ap-parently -- ap being Welsh for 'son of' in names (Ap Rhys for example). But then I thought better of it and calmed down.

Thanks for the laugh, Bullfrog. And the explanations - well done.
