Sat down to attempt to display my new cryptic abilities and am so stumped

I'm not even sure if episode is right if anyone can confirm?

Going down from 17-

So thinking English battles- Hastings (about only one that comes to mind)

Then another word for battle in the letters of 'english townor settlement'

Bit stumped there


Down off 18, so the word 'said' is telling me how to read the clue but i don't exactly know what 'said' means.

Something liek 'swing to' as swing is a dance and means attention somewhat

or ballet /belay homophones but belay is more rockclimbing not really any relevance

This is tough. so 'about to' doesn't mean _TO_ as obligate puts an L as the 2nd letter.

ahh got it, it must be "BLUB" as BULB is another word for onion i realised. About in this sense means anagram, interesting

18d is Excuse me (dance) so episode is wrong

3 down "Astronomer needs transparent dome that gets fumes out (6-6)"

H_B_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ - so Hubble Bubble? otherwise the word hybrid fits but doesn't make as much sense

16 is Odyssey (embedded in clue)

20 across is bothered, Almost all robins are, after being disturbed

so robins are red and it is at the end, this means hubble bubble is wrong

I don't understand how excuse me fits with Dance?

hubble bubble is correct. It is a form of the Hookah (pipe) which smoke passes through
