24 down (5) W - S - Y

Quick clue: Spiteful (5)
Cryptic clue: Resentful manner about spelling (5)

I think this is WASPY, (way around sp) but have never heard of waspy to mean spiteful or resentful - more sharp, antagonised. Any help gratefully received!

Never heard of waspy either. It seems clear from the definitions of spiteful and resentful that what they actually mean is waspish.

Chambers gives 'waspy' as a variant of 'waspish'
