Thanks, I actually had that in mind but didn't think about it long enough to see the answer.

Here is my first go, not going too badly

Thought 7 down might be Fir Tree and 9 across something to do with Bach. 5 down Stars but i can't see how that answers the retreat part of the clue.

No composers I know fit that word and so I imagine "bit of back pain" is part of a word in between a composer. IE 'ac' from ache in between viv'ac'aldi but I can't find any result there either FAIL!

Also, no synonym for the word 'retreat' seems to wants to works in 5 down.

Nor can i think of a specific place that people dress down.

WAIT, it could be synonym for retreat found in the words 'flashy dressers'....flees would work... but doesn't. FAIL AGAIN

Yes, I could only think of lairs, presumably derived from flairs if they are flashy dressers.
