15ac. Country youth, one encountered in Shakespeare? (5) I have s-a-n. It must be Spain but don't see why from the clue. Can someone explain please?

It's swain. Shakespeare was the Swan of Avon.

Chald - many thanks. I was looking for a country rather than a youth. I recall now that Shakespeare was the Swan of Avon but didn't come to mind earlier. Many thanks again. Clever clue really.
