I assume 13A is CATCH but I don't fully understand the clue ... NICK IS AN ATTRACTIVE MATE.

Double meaning

Catch = Nick (you're nicked)
Catch = an attractive person

I have never heard of an attractive person being referred to as a CATCH. It is not in Chambers Dictionary. A poor clue IMHO.

A good catch is a reasonably well known phrase surely ? eg...a woman marrying a wealthy man could be described as having made a "good catch" It would seem to have a fishing connection.

Chambers gives : Catch, someone who is worth catching as a marriage partner,

It certainly is in Chambers!
