Have got the answer to 15d but don't understand the clue

are you doing the prize or quiptic,because I have just looked at the web site and if you are doing the same one as OAK then it is not in the med but in the canaries(it's an anagram)

Levant is an old name for the East, so:

E - levat - or

E = East, Levat = Levant without N(orth), OR is part of North,

Wow was I confused? It would of been nice to have the clue though.
EB the online version has 10 at the end of the clue,where does that come in to play or is it a typo?
sorry to OAK too,though I wouldn't choose Turkey to describe the levant.
