Last clue as usual! Can't think of anything edible to solve this,

how many letters?

I do not know the number of letters. I keep thinking about unions and whistles but so far can only think of wedding cake or flapjack (union being the flag) but I'm sure neither is correct

could it be Maryland cookies, as in union USA, and cookies on computers, bit obscure perhaps?

Still no idea about this. Can't understand why this is so difficult when other 29 clues were very easy.

I have a recollection of souffle having a connection to whistle, but I can't think how the union member comes into it.

I googled nut souffle and found a recipe for it. Any good, do you think?
