The subsidiary indication in each clue leads to an answer plus an extra letter , not to be entered into the grid.

23a Precious stone of little value corrupted well-to-do men (6) extra letter A
I have ?E?ME?
35a Abandoned flat in marriage duties made bitter , perhaps (6) extra letter T
I have ?RE?ED
(could be brewed but why?)

Could someone please confirm that when we carry out the final instruction we will be obliterating part of our answers in the 36 selected cells?

I used a coloured pencil to mark out the 36 cells in the shape of the most famous product
of the originator.

Thanks Tony.
It seems to me that only one colour can be used to mark out the shape in the appropriate cells. My trouble is that I used the same colour to populate the grid. It looks a bit messy as I running through the middle of letters using the same colour.
Good luck to all who are submitting their entries.
