(I was thinking it began 'rote...'/boring work, but that's as far as I got!)

Have now got only two left and have answers, but they can't both be correct. Would welcome any views.
7 D. Very old, no longer opposed to field of medicine (7) an-i-n-
This looks very like 'ancient'
12 A. Cloth spread and lowered (6) -b--ed
This looks like 'abased' - which suits the 'lowered' part of the clue.
If 'ancient' is right, then 12 A becomes
-b-ced - very odd looking!
If 'abased' is right then 7D becomes ansi-n-

looks like Anti ENT, antient = old spelling of ancient??
