One still niggling me. Can anyone explain 24dn? I can see "reverse of modern", but how does "d" in the answer relate to italicised "that" in the clue?

Peterm - I took the do to imply 'would' ie the reversed three letter word 'would' be a change from obsolete. Hope hat makes some kind of sense

Sorry - typo - 'do' should be 'd'

Yes - a very iffy clue. It was my last in. Thought 1 across was great though. I'd never heard of the phrase but the first word leapt out
