OK, OK so I'm being especially dense as nobody seems to be having any problem with 16 Down - ?H?N?T?E "Companion tries somehow to entertain one famous author"

I've gone throught all the other threads, and they all seem to be about clues that I found easy - so I'm especially frustrated!

It must be Christie.

CH (companion of honour) + anagram of tries.
