Finished the puzzle (it was easier than usual) but don't get two of the clues. 26a: Grandpa's pipe (not getting snuff out) alight as of old (5), for which I have AVALE. 14d: What goes up at Xmas? Distribution of cards- husband leaves the lot wretchedly for stuffing (9), for which I have MISTLETOE.

Aaah. Didn't read latter clue as "minus husband" but rather "dash husband"- was trying to use mister somehow. And didn't think of pip in the former. Thanks, ixion and cmk. Hope your awful winter is over.

Raining in Massachusetts (41 Fahrenheit here), but the mountain ranges of snow are almost gone! It just doesn't seem possible. Gearing up for a pagan spring dance- bring on Stravinsky.
