18 across: clue suggests the answer should be aperitif but the extra letter would seem to pint towards the plural. Any other suggestions..?

According to Chambers Dictionary, aperitive is an adjective meaning laxative. As a noun, Chambers admits it is a variant of aperitif but the primary meaning is an aperitive medicine.
