Took me a while but the penny has now dropped! Nice puzzle and different!

Enjoyable puzzle - liked the construction of 19D when I finally worked it out

yes ixion that was quite clever - i was thinking "a" or "ace" for the "one" bit and only figured it out after I had the defn.
