I know there are measures I can take to stop it, but I've recently begun being plagued by spam. It originates from either Newark, Atlanta or Chicago.

The things advertised are of no interest to me whatsoever as I live in the Channel Islands.

I'm curious to know whether any of you are receiving any as I can only wonder whether it's anything to do with this site...?

Hi Wendy - I dont get any spam. My spam guard from BT seems very effective at blocking this stuff out. I doubt if using this site would result in any spam being generated, unless you have published your email address in the past

I get 20-30 spam mails per day but they are filtered out by Virgin Media.
I can read them by going into my spam in box(they are automatically deleted after30 days).
Most of them originate in the USA and advertise things like viagra, penile enlargement, fake watches, bogus qualifications and get rich quick schemes.Remember never to open an attachment but I think its OK to read the first bit.
My mum gets the same spam and she's 75 and hasn't got a penis!

Thanks Chrisg and Tonyw,

I have never posted my e-mail address BUT, like the poor unsuspecting soul that I am I do register with it on this site.

I've looked back over my Trash box and the attack did begin shortly after I joined this site. I'm now convinced that someone has "sold" my address to the spammers. Just in case it rings a bell with anyone, this was yesterday afternoon and this morning rubbish:

By the time I've posted this - there'll be a whole lot more too!

I used my real email address when I started on this site, but I don't now. I've never had much spam.

You were also talking about trojans and the like. As far as I can tell your computer (mine and anyone else's) is under constant attack from the moment you switch it on. Most of it is relatively harmless, tracking cookies and the like. But some of it isn't. If you don't have a decent security system you really are asking for trouble. I now use the latest Norton and have no trouble at all.

I use my real address and don't get any more spam now than I did before I used this site, I get between 20 and 30 a day which go straight into the spam folder, I usually check for any that are not spam then delete. I have never had any from the list posted, but do seem to get a lot of offers for viagra and beautiful Russian ladies, also regular offers of vast amounts of cash from the UN, FBI and even Barak Obama!

I use a unique email address for this site - and similar, but different, addresses for other forums and although I do get spam none of it goes to any of these addresses.
