Thanks - that's what I'm thinking, but that means 2d (the uninvited guest) is u-b-a.

Also, apologies - I've just worked out 4a - it's cookie - I had adhesion instead of cohesion for 4d.

sorry the def in chambers is the whole clue word for word,i.e. that comes with an invited one.
