Hi...I desperately need a fresh pair of eyes...not to mention a couple of less addled brain-cells & synapses. PLEASE!
This clue seems so straightforward, yet managed to prevent me falling asleep last night for an hour. So here goes, playmates...any Damascan revelations would be warmly appreciated....
Clue: 19a) Circle past (4)
Letters: R - N -
It screams our RING....but how does that explain the "past" reference in the clue?
Thank you,
Paul

What about rang? Ring as a noun, of course, is a circle but if ring, as a verb, is used in the past tense...

Morning & thanks, Tony....that hit me about the head around 1.30am too, but I still don't quite get it...unless it's just a lazy clue. I get "Circle"="Ring" & the past tense of "Ring"="Rang", but doesn't that mean there is mo actual definition in the clue of "Rang"?
I think I will go with your answer anyway, Tony...& really appreciate your trouble. Cheers, Paul
