Could it be HALFBALL?

23 Drank as female was eating (7)
Have --E-F-D
Could it be SHEAFED or SHELFED? (She Fed - female eating)?

22 Peer has nobody to protect name (6)
Have ---I-T
No idea on this!

thanks JimC,i checked out the word squit and it does indeed mean 'A person of low status' not just the rather unpleasant(for Teatime anyway)meaning that i knew.
