I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

1. Superstitious relations and long-standing union members have picked up tails (3,5,5)
2. Abandoned cooking utensil with dangerous casing blows up (7)
3. Press baron deserts prurient mob on a building (9)
4. Warm and dry shelter may give the infantry some protection (3,5)
5. Fashionable person’s mount ? (5)

Please don’t post the answers until 5 p.m. Gives those interested a chance to solve.

Hello Jolan,

1. old wives tales.
2. expands.
3. importune.
4. air cover.
5. inset.

What can I say, yet another set right out of the top drawer.

Hi Terry. All alone? Ta for your gracious comment.
First four neatly solved, but No. 5? Not my answer.

Nevertheless, how do you get 'inset'?

I've reflected a bit. in set = fashionable PEOPLE. but mount = inset ?

However, if you recognised it as a 'double', it is.

Wonder where's Chrisg et al?

hi Jolan, i didn't get 2. or 5.
2. is a very good clue.
I thought terry was correct with inset when i saw his answer.

Hi Mamya (welcome) and Trevor (Thank you for the comment T).
I was beginning to wonder if I'd set up an ambiguity but Fashionable PERSON is not IN SET.

Jolan,
You do realise don't you that if this was a real crossword we would have to ask the inner circle of the inner circle of the RT Church to journey to Parnassus and seek divine guidance from Turast.
I can't face that. So what is the real answer please.

Hi.

Maybe Jolan is a fan of The Avengers and no.5 is John "Steed"? Would be a bit niche though.
