Thank you. Yes, I have heard of Google but the site doesn't always come up with the goods and sometimes the answers given contradict one another.

i've always thought that Chinese was the origin of tea.i don't know why tho.

The entry of that website starts:

"1650s, earlier chaa (1590s, from Port. cha), from Malay teh and directly from Chinese (Amoy dialect) t'e, in Mandarin ch'a ..."
