9a looks like frontage - not sure where the "fro" bit comes from though

I took that as in 'to and fro' being towards and away from. Away being loose! Said it was a bit obtuse.

Ixion, not too sure about this, but is a fron not part of a watch chain?

frontage: end of chain = 'n'(last letter of chain). on back = fro (to and fro/fro means back). So fro-n- then an anagram of gate (gate is loose.

Not sure about fron. I can find no reference to it. I just derived the n from the end of chain, the rest as said before. Either way I'm sure frontage is right. If its not I need to find another forum where I can be anonymous in my ignorance.
