I think Gin and bitter lemon is a pink gin, But never heard of Gin and Bitter.

Could it be called "A Jane Lane", because Jane Lane is an author who wrote the novel Gin and Bitters

i too put Nether Kellet,also Bacup,in lancs,you said this was clued for someone special to you a while ago(boyfriend?) ;-)
so maybe some local stuff, are you from Lancs?
i don't have the crossword in front of me but i remember being a bit puzzled by the 'dove had flown...'clue.
perhaps i should put this on your thread,may do that.
