Hi.

20d is ORACLE (O=old + RACLE=hasty/abandoned).

Best Wishes.

Oh!

The answer to 20d given on the Answerbank is DAGOBA (a type of buddhist shrine). If that's the right answer, what is the wordplay?

I don't get any of the above 3 (as far as wordplay goes) if the answers given at AB are correct.

Hi Trevor.

As far as ORACLE (a shrine) goes ...

RACLE is an alternative spelling of RAKEL, used by Chaucer (in Troilus and Criseyde) to mean hasty/reckless/rash. I extrapolated this to mean 'abandoned' (in the sense of 'While drunk, he behaved in an abandoned way').

I may be a step (or several) too far, though.

Perhaps someone could let us know what any firm intersecting letters are, for any of the three clues?

Thanks for that JimC, but I was refering to the answers given at AB;
Unlove
Dagoba
Aurora
(I don't really see Frigid or Clammy being correct either. I wish I had some suggestions rather than just being negative).
Can anyone enlighten me?

Ah, sorry, just my paranoia.

I agree with you - I don't understand any of the wordplays for the other given answers.
