skiddaw. saw (saying/adage) around kid (young goat) and d (deserted).

For 13a I'm sure ORCHID is correct. But after pondering it all day, I still can't see why! 'CH' I take to be the 'child', but what's the rest of it? Please enlighten. TIA

(I'm sure I'm going to feel so "stoopid" when I get the explanation!)
