Quite a clever puzzle today, although i found some of the clues hard with a few new words for me! 4a was the turning point, then the rest all fittted in neatly.Don't forget to highlight the 5th linked word!

Hello S - I finished it quite quickly - like you, 4 was the giveaway. I have 2 down as the one to shade.

Of course - silly me! Thank you. It was the elusive word that fooled me.

Yes quite straightforward but still enjoyable.

How does the title 'Up or Down' fit? If it was 'left, right, up or down or anywhere' I could understand.

Pleased to report that I was a runner-up of no. 1996 - my first time for the Speccie. The new Chambers will come in handy. Thanks to all on the forum who helped - you know who you are.

Oh my Lord! Surely this can't be another RT navel-gazing thread, where everyone is so clever that simple answers are verboten? I just hope poor Terry doesn't come across it.

Easy to mock, TJ. There seem to be a few of us who take particular delight in this puzzle; we don 't want the answers, merely to share our pleasure in the exercise

Yes AJT. You're a super and respected contributor to the site, as is Sudo, BUT one self-congratulatory thread (RT) should really be enough. Note the title of the site - "CROSSWORD CLUE SOLVER" with sub title CROSSWORD HELP FORUM". Terry has commented (quite humourously, at times) on this regularly and I must agree with him.

Your first comment, TJ, came under neither of the headings you quote.
