Not quite, Don McLean wrote the song in the late sixties as an abstract form of his own life story from the mid-fifties onwards inspired loosely on the death of Buddy Holly in 1959.

Having googled American Pie I now see that, although there is reference to the King and Queen, the pertinent words are, "And while the King was looking down..., not the Queen, so???
