As the process is about storing CO2 in the ground, the answer could well be soil.

Soil? Charcoal is being ploughed into soils to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere apparently. Hope this helps

In the fight against carbon emission, COAL is one of the major emitters. Could coal, therefore, be a target for carbon sequestration ? Are you sure about your "s".
