The musical term subtone means the flatted seventh degree of the diatonic scale, a whole step below the tonic. AKA the leading note, it is the seventh degree of the major and harmonic minor scale.

The part about "slower than sound" is subsonic, then there's "tenor" instead of "soprano", so T for S
