Try to be a bit more creative with your thread titles. Including the puzzle/paper title would be a useful start

i would think people should check their old threads for answers before reposting the same question.

Question for "me".

How is giving the actual paper title deemed to be creative then?

1. It provides a hint as to whether I'm likely to answer the question
2. It avoids filling the forum with identical posts headed "cryptic help please"
3. It saves wasting time opening umpteen threads that I've probably already seen/responded to

It may or may not be all those things But how is it creative?

It's more creative than repeating the same title ad infinitum. Just as being pedantic shows no originality on your part.

And it's clearly stated in the posting tips...
1. State the name (and number if available) of the puzzle in the thread title. "Stuck", "Help!!!" or "Last One" aren't very useful titles.
