A few queries..

3D - pretty sure of the answer but wordplay escapes me - have an r and a been added from the boxes below?

31D - I have ?E?E?U - if correct is the answer a French word?

31d. you first E should be an A. It is French.
3d. Is a 6 letter word .... the R and A belong to across clues, but not to 3d.
