A halbert (or halberd) is a weapon of the 15th and 16th centuries having an axe-like blade and a steel spike mounted on the end of a pole.

Incidentally, there is a Lake Halbert in Texas, though that is quite an obscure one, and hence probably why it wasn't part of the clue.
